About Sumita Mitra

During her time at the University of Berkeley, Sumita simultaneously pursued her passions for creating change and creating music. She earned dual degrees in International Development and Environmental Economics & Policy and took her classical musical training to the next level by founding Kal Ki Awaaz, an all-female South Asian a capella group. Sumita put her theoretical knowledge of development into practice during a one year Fellowship with Indicorps in Rural Rajasthan where she gained a more complex understanding of grassroots development and social justice issues in India. Sumita is now looking forward to rounding out her understanding of development and India by working with a small-scale, for profit start up, Jagriti Agro Tech, focused on connecting rural organic farmers to urban markets.
